Car Rental News - 04/09/2008

Budget Rent A Car vehicles – some with drivers - can now be rented at the Ho Chi Minh City Airport and city hotels.

As Vietnam’s visitor numbers grow and their service expectations increase, Budget Rent A Car, one of the world’s top rental car brands, has made a decision to enter the booming market.

Visitors to Vietnam passed the 2.2 million mark during the first six months of this year, which is the highest number ever recorded for a six month period, according to statistics provided by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

“We are confident there is substantial demand for high quality car rental here,” said the general manager for Budget Vietnam, Dan Cohen. “Not only does Budget fill that glaring need, but it does so in a comforting fashion. Everyone who’s been overseas knows the name, Budget, and what it represents.”

In order to best ensure its success in the new venture, Budget has aligned itself with The Gannon Group, a foreign firm well entrenched in Vietnam.

Entering the Vietnam market when the trade embargo was lifted in 1994, Gannon paved the way for numerous well-known brands to establish themselves in the market. Nestle, L’Oreal, and later, Budweiser, were among the top brands following Gannon’s lead. Now, with Budget, Gannon has a vested interest in the global rental car company’s success, as it owns the franchise rights for Budget Vietnam.

“We began discussions with Budget in 2005, believing its service has huge potential, especially as this country welcomes more visitors with discerning tastes,” noted Gannon’s CEO, Walter Blocker. “The brand offers qualities an affluent audience wants and appreciates.”
