A British woman drowned near an Antigua beach on Thursday just after her father’s wedding hours earlier.

Thirty-three year-old Nicola Raybone had disappeared from her hotel on Thursday when friends left her alone at the all-inclusive resort's bar. After returning from dinner, they reported the woman to be missing to local police and hotel staff. Authorities found her dead body on a nearby beach after an hour of searching.

Police have yet to release an official cause of death but said there was no sign of a struggle and it appears that she drowned in the sea.

Raybone, of Lytham, Lancs, is a mother of a 13 year-old son and an 11 year-old daughter. Reports said she had checked into the Jolly Beach Resort Hotel just hours before the tragedy to attend her father’s wedding ceremony.

David Barlow, her uncle, told reporters that Nicola had been at the bar with her friend Becky and her children. He said the family left to have a meal and then returned to the bar to find only Nicola’s phone and her shoes. He added that his niece was a good swimmer and thus the family could not understand how she could have drowned.

Sgt William Holder of the Antigua Police said the investigation was ongoing and added that the woman was still wearing her clothes when she was found.
