Car hire firm Hertz has made its entire rental fleet smoke-free.

According to reports published this week, the global car hire brand has now prohibited smoking in all of its rental vehicles. Previously, smoking was allowed in a small number of rentals.

The move comes in line with smoke-free trend in the industry; the majority of US- and Europe-based rental brands now offer completely smoke-free fleets.

Mark Frissora, chief executive of Hertz Corporation, said in a statement that the “time is right” to transition the entire fleet to smoke-free status. He went on to add that the vast majority of Hertz clientele as well as the company’s employees now prefer smoke-free vehicles.

With the move, US rentals returned with evidence of smoking will be charged a $100 cleaning fee, according to an official press release.

Meanwhile, Hertz has recently launched a fresh partnership with Kuwait Airways, which allows the carrier’s Oasis Club members to take advantage of special Hertz rates at thousands of locations worldwide.
