Car rental company Hertz has signed a name rights deal for the New Zealand International Sevens Tournament.

Set to go into force in 2012, the contract will see Hertz’s brand name appear in the official name of each event in the tournament, beginning on 3-4 February during the Hertz Sevens matchups at a sold-out Westpac Stadium in Wilmington, marking the fourth round of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Hertz’s country manager for New Zealand, Mark Righton, said that his country truly loves rugby and that the firm was “delighted” to secure naming rights for the tournament in 2012 and 2013. He added that deal would not only enable Hertz to promote its name but would also provide an opportunity for it introduce Horatio, the company’s brand ambassador and global mascot to the New Zealand audience.

Hertz New Zealand has also said that fans can visit its new Horatio Facebook page, which provides an opportunity to win tickets the sold-out event. The website claims that the tickets are in “hot demand”, having sold out in only a few minutes.

Steve Walters, Hertz Sevens general manager, said that his organisation was excited to bring the car hire company onboard and to continue the rugby sevens’ success in New Zealand and around the globe.
