New Jersey-based Hertz has launched a new version of its mobile application for the Windows Phone platform.

According to a press release, the move makes the car hire giant the first in the industry to offer a mobile application available on each of the four major mobile platforms.

The software, Hertz for Windows Phone, enables consumers to search reservations, book vehicles, make changes to bookings and find Hertz locations “in the palm of their hand”. The program also boasts the ‘Find my Car’ feature, which allows rental patrons to quickly locate where they’ve parked, thanks to GPS technology.

Todd Brix, senior director of the Windows Phone marketplace, said in a statement that the program was another example of useful applications that enable Windows Phone owners to take full advantage of the product.

Likewise, Hertz chief executive and chairman Mark P. Frissora said via the release that his organization strives to stay up to date with the latest technological advancements. He went on to add that the launch of Hertz for Windows Phone comes amid efforts to cater to the increasingly popular trend of booking travel via mobile web technology.

A recent survey by the eMarketer research firm said that some 32 million people regularly search for travel reservations through mobile devices and some 16 million use mobile devices to make bookings, according to the release.
