Car hire giant Hertz is moving its main headquarters from New Jersey to Florida, the firm announced this week.

Hertz chief executive Mark Frissora told the media in an official statement on Tuesday that the decision to move the company’s corporate base to the city of Estero was “kind of easy”, noting that all of the firm’s goals pointed to the location.

USA Today reported earlier in the week that Hertz is to receive some $19 million (£12.3 million) in stimulus money from the Lee County government via an agreement with the Lee County Economic Development Office and Enterprise Florida. The relocation is expected to bring at least 700 jobs to the local economy.

Florida governor Rick Scott said in a statement that the news was a major victory for his state and that the move reiterates that Florida is a “great place” to conduct business.

Frissora said that part of the decision comes due to needs created by the recent acquisition of Dollar Thrifty, and that it would have been difficult to attract talented Dollar Thrifty executives to move to New Jersey.
